Car history:
For sale via e-Bay: Vehicle Description Up for auction is a 61 Corvette that was born as a big brake, fuel injected, and high horsepower (315) four-speed car with both tops. The original colors were fawn, fawn. I am the owner, and selling it for myself, not a friend or relative. I bought this car in Nov. 1988 without the original motor, or fuel injection, or soft-top, and it had a three-speed transmission in it. The engine was a 283 out of some 62 car and it was only a short block. Oh I forgot to mention that the big brakes where on the car, minus the drums and duct work. After getting the car home and doing some research I found that the car had a 350 in it at one time. I decided to do a title search with the DMV here in Missouri, and found out they would make copies of all the titles of owner in that state. This was helpful to find out some of history of the car. After going through the titles, and calling everyone in the St.Louis phone book with the same last name as on each title, I was able to talk to several of the owners! The two that remain in my memory are first, the person who brought it here to St. Louis. He was in the military, stationed in Washington, and said he always wanted a Corvette. This was in the early seventies. At that time the original drive train minus the fuel unit was in the car. He said the fuel unit was taken off when he bought it because it was not running right. I found out from someone else that the engine was taken out not 20 miles from my home in the late seventies. I hunted that engine down for months, to a shed in the back yard of a house to find out that a new owner of the house did a shed clean up and the engine was junk. The second person was a gentleman who did not want to reminisce about the car until I found something we had in common Viet Nam. He then talked about how he was the one who put the 350 in it and raced it at Gateway International. He said at that time that he set a track record that he thought was still standing as of that date. The car was silver at that time. He painted it red before he sold it. It is green under the silver; this is the color the owner from Washington wanted it painted. He also said that the original shifter was in his attic, and would not part with it. This is where it started for me, I hope this didnt bore you!! This is where the car is at today. The car is in excellent running condition, and is licensed for this state. The car does not have a Vin Tag, but was I. D. O. D. when bought by lifting the body up to verify the ID # that is stamped in the frame below the drivers door. The short block that came with the car was completely rebuilt, fitted with 461 heads, and a WCFB carb that was rebuilt by Bob Kuntz. The radio is an after market, but was hunted down to fit without any change to the dash. The second inboard taillight on each side is the only modification to the car. The car also has a soft-top, but it is torn. I was told it was my fault by the interior shop because I sand blasted the frame and painted it, and he said he was not sure where the bows went. This happened the second time I put the top down. Since the HD brakes were missing parts, and the parts were no where to be found. I thought it would be better to remove what was there, put into storage, and replace everything with standard brake parts. I found all the parts I needed from the backing plates forward. I bought all new wheel cylinders, bearing, races and hardware, had drums turned, and replaced all lines, and hoses. Yes I still have those brake parts (see PIC below). Also I was able to get some like new brake drums needed for the big brakes. One problem, I have four fronts, and the rears are wider. When these became available 10 or so years ago I decided that two might be used to trade at a later date. The front end has been completely rebuilt, and all fuel lines have been replaced. The seats where removed completely disassembled, sandblasted and painted, and new springs, foam, and covers were installed. Carpet, door panels, stainless, and sill plates were also replaced. Most of all the old parts were kept. The car has had 7,500 miles put on it since it was brought back to life in 1990.When buying thing for the car I wanted to keep it original as possible. The car has the right dated coded four-speed (4-speed by Darrel), and the correct shifter. During the years I have collected parts to do the car right. I will list a few parts to give you an idea of what I am talking about. These parts have not been installed! Completely rebuilt fuel unit (7017320), rebuilt date coded rear end (4-speed by Darrel) AS 11-11, Engine is F1118CS date coded K180. The other number on the engine is 1103383; my car is number 103454, which would make this engine installed in the car 71 cars before mine. What are the chances of finding an engine this close? Could have been built the same week, or maybe the same day! This engine is ready to be assembled, It has been bored, and honed to fit the piston (.030), and rods recondition, new bolts, then balanced. Both heads have all stainless valves, harden seats, and the stud bosses have been pined. Head dates are J 11 0 & J 18 0, Exhaust manifold dates J 13 & K 17, Camshaft in GM tube #3736097, the aluminum bell housing is #3779553. I do not have an air cleaner for the fuel unit. There are many other parts that come with the car; windshield from OEM glass (windshield is crack on lower right side), list goes on, and on. Many are NOS that I bought many years ago. I will make a list and e-mail on request. Also I have many pics of the car, and parts for the serious. Parts are offered with car only, please do not ask! Please do not ask for the reserve price, it will be known when reach! Thank You! There is a lift available for full inspections. I also have the means to deliver the car and extra parts in an enclosed trailer for a transportation fee. Car has always been stored inside since I have had it. I also have all the receipt for everything I bought since 10-17-88! Good Luck with bidding, and remember BID TO OWN HISTORY!
